You’re thinking in the right direction, and a scary direction it is! Yes, we can see that Nicki is becoming more of a singles artist. It’s just another major artist who sold out their identity in the music game in order to continue their relevancy, and most definitely not the last. While Nicki may have released a few urban singles off of Roman Reloaded already (so many at this point that it seems like she’s just trying to push past this era rather quickly), you can tell she’s backing the pop singles more. A lot of her fans always say that a true fan would appreciate both Nicki’s (both being old-school mixtape Nicki and pop-whore Nicki), but there’s a difference between a genuine change in musical direction and completely selling out.

What we can take away from this is that no artist is safe from selling out into the singles artist route, depending on how bad they want relevancy.
